Dr.Megan Comp (Jones)
Dr Megan Comp (Jones) is originally from Hanford, California. She knew at a very young age that she wanted to care for animals. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California Santa Barbara and her Doctorate of Veterinary medicine from St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical rotations at Auburn University and now resides in Alcoa, Tennessee. Dr. Comp began working in the kennel at the local vet in Hanford at the age of 15. She earned her way up to vet technician while still in high school. While attending UCSB she worked at the Santa Barbara Zoo and discovered her passion for working with a variety of species. Dr. Comp knows that a good doctor never stops learning...she continually takes advantage of a variety of Continuing Education opportunities across the country to stay current on new medicines, treatments, and surgical protocol. When she's not caring for patients, Dr. Comp is probably working in her vegetable garden or spending fun time with her son.
'I felt a strong bond with animals when I was very young. The human/animal bond is very important to me and I want to do everything I can to strengthen that bond with every person and pet I meet. Everyday, animals show me the kind, humble, loyal and genuine nature that every human should possess.'
Dr. Jane Fred is a native of Knoxville. She received her undergraduate in 1982 with a double major in animal science and ornamental horticulture and landscape design. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1986. She has worked in the greater Knoxville area since graduating and is experienced in both mixed animal as well as small animal practice. She works with Mountain Highway Veterinary Hospital as well as other practices as a part time/relief veterinarian. She resides in Corryton with her husband, horses, cats and dogs. When she's not saving lives, Dr. Fred enjoys tending to her horses, traveling, fishing and gardening.
Jessica Reagan (Veterinary Technician) joined our team in May of 2009. Previously pre-vet at The University of Tennessee, she found her true passion working here as a veterinary technician. She is dedicated to continuing her education within the field, and to learning new and improved techniques and procedures in order to better serve our patients and their families. She is married with three children. They all share their home with the queen of the house, a feisty Yorkie named Nadia, a Persian cat, Lolli-Pops, and Elsa, the gorgeous English Bulldog pictured here.
'Animals have always been a passion of mine, so I am very fortunate to get to do what I love everyday. Getting to see a patient have a speedy recovery, respond well to treatment, or even just get back to acting like his/her normal self is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. I really feel like we are able to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Unlike those in human medicine, our patients are unable to speak for themselves; unable to tell us where it hurts or what is wrong. Yet somehow Dr. Jones is able to give them a voice, and I am glad to get to be a part of that everyday.'
Cheryl Bays (Office Manager/Receptionist) Back in December of 2013, Cheryl left the sub-zero temps and snow of northern Indiana to move to the area with her fiancee, Rex. She has 6 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 dachshunds, Stewart and Newman (shown here). She brings with her 15 years of experience in the veterinary industry and a love for all things auto racing. When she's not working and the weather's nice, you'd probably find Cheryl and Rex riding their Harley through the foothills.
'I love working with animals and I will treat each and every one with respect and love. Every day holds something new. I'm very lucky to be working here. Dr. Jones and Dr. Fred are the best.'
Jennifer Prim (Veterinary Technician) Originally from the Chicago area, Jennifer made the move to Knoxville in June 2013. After living the majority of her life up north, she has a deep appreciation for the warmer climate, being surrounded by nature and the beautiful mountains. Jennifer shares her life with a special crew of all rescued pets. She is owned by two catahoula leopard dogs, Otis (who was born deaf) and Zoey, his best friend and guide. She also has four sweet cats: two siamese mixes, Frankenstein and Fiffy and two she raised as bottle-fed babies, Felix and Cupcake. She has felt a passionate bond with animals since childhood and therefore it came quite natural that she'd spend her entire adult life working with them. Although she has enjoyed working in other areas of the animal world, she feels the most fulfilled and satisfied in an animal hospital. She takes great pride in not only helping care for each pet's medical needs, but doing so with compassion and kindness. Jennifer enjoys spending her off-time working with rescues and fostering pets. She also enjoys traveling, the great outdoors, and photography.
'I feel extremely grateful everyday to get to do what I love; caring for pets and their people. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to work with amazing doctors who share the same passion and empathy I feel for each individual patient. I am whole-heartedly dedicated to caring for every pet as if they were my own.'
Kevin Hunt (Veterinary Technician) Kevin came to join us here after working for several years as a zookeeper, mostly with Great Apes and Elephants. He has a great love and understanding of all animals (big and small) and plans on returning to the zoo after finishing school. When he's not busy working he enjoys painting, drawing, kayaking, gardening and cooking. Kevin resides in Louisville, TN with his 3 cats, 1 dog, 6 rabbits, 3 tarantulas and a snake named Alice.
Jennifer Jones (Veterinary Technician) Jenn joined our team in 2016 after moving to Tennessee from California. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Humboldt State University and is currently working on her Veterinary Technician license at Penn Foster College. Jenn always had family pets growing up and has always loved animals. While in California, she started working at her local Vet Hospital and has enjoyed working with animals ever since. She shares her home with a Tuxedo Cat named Gizmo and a Lab/Shepherd mix named Chopper. When not working, Jenn enjoys hiking, kayaking, photography and road trips (especially exploring new places). 'I enjoy working at a smaller Veterinary practice where you become close with the clients, fellow staff, and the great Vets'.
